FOR the first time in 12 years, a landmark Sydney property is available to the market.
Two of Paddington’s historic terraces, merged into a single home at 36 Glenmore Rd, are scheduled to go to auction on Saturday, July 15 with a price guide of $3.6 million.
Michael Roberts fell in love with the circa 1900 property at first sight when house hunting following a relocation from Melbourne.
“It was bigger than I was after but I thought, I’ll have a look,” Mr Roberts said.
“One of the key reasons I chose it was because of how it felt.
“You close that front door and you’ve got birds in the trees out the back and it’s a really tranquil setting within the city.”
Mr Roberts’ three level residence was created by the previous owner, an architect who managed to seamlessly meld neighbouring terraces into one stunning home.
Character features including period fireplaces, leadlights, wide timber floors, high ceilings and picture rails were retained during the renovation which served to enhance the sense of space and style.
“It’s a great entertaining house because of the large rooms which open up to sunny balconies and courtyards,” Mr Roberts said.
“There is a luxurious feel to it because of how it flows.
“People often say ‘wow’ when they first visit.”


A rare and valuable asset is the secure garage with internal access, yet the inner-city location means a car is hardly necessary.
“Its address is key,” Mr Roberts said.
“I used to walk to and from my office near Circular Quay.
“It’s convenient as everything is at your fingertips.”
Paddington’s popular Five Ways and the bustling Oxford St shopping strip are only minutes away, while it’s a short drive to the airport or beach.
Mr Roberts said the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home offers plenty of scope for the next owner to alter according to their needs.
Although, it really is quite perfect already and the only reason Mr Roberts has decided to sell is due to the substantial size of the property.
“I plan to stay in the area but I’m downsizing,” he said.
“It’s a big place for one person.”
