Brisbane’s famous Pinkey family on move

 
HENDRA business owner Alan Pinkey is known by everyone for his iconic convenience store Pinkey’s on Zillman Rd in the booming inner north Brisbane suburb.
 
The South African-born Alan Pinkey, aged 69 and his wife Sharon are now dreaming of a sea change.
 
Alan and Sharon Pinkey have just listed their immaculate two- level five bedroom contemporary home built 13 years ago in one of the best streets in Hendra at 94 Pring Street with Ray White Ascot high profile agent Leigh Kortlang.
 
Mr Pinkey said the time was right to sell their recently repainted immaculate home and relocate to the Gold Coast.
 
“I am trying to slowdown as our children are grown up. It’s a big step to sell your home, but we have been thinking about it for a while ‘
 
‘‘My favourite room is the bar, we have a beautiful bar and we have had some good parties through the year’s as we use to do a lot of entertaining. It’s a happy home and we enjoyed living here.”
 
“We wish the future owners good luck and happiness and hope they too enjoy this lovely home.”
 
Mr Pinkey first came to Melbourne in 1971 where he worked as a salesman for Birds Eye Frozen Foods. His sister and brother-in-law (both deceased) came over for a visit and talked him in to driving to Queensland as they wanted to see the Great Barrier Reef.
 
“I didn’t realise that it was so far so I decided not to travel any further and stayed in Brisbane,” he said.
 
It was in 1973 that Mr Pinkey decide to buy a small corner store in Zillman Road.
 
He sponsored his brother Nayland and the rest of his family to came to Australia. Then in 1980 he moved the store up the road and turned it into a 4 Square Supermarket and in 1988 it was re- branded as Pinkey’s Foodstore.
 
Alan and his brother Nayland have been running the iconic grocery store in Hendra since 1973. Nayland knows everybody by their names
 
Five years later Mr Pinkey decided to reduce the size of the store and leased part of the building to liquor store and a hairdressing salon.
Mr Pinkey is a businessman and entrepreneur who focuses heavily in real estate .
 
He owns a lot of property including Hendra Plaza where the famous local Thai Naramit Restaurant is plus plus the well-respected local pool shop called Easy Pools.
 
“My son Matthew runs Hendra Hardware and my daughter Melissa runs the florist Alba Roses,” he said of his enterprising family.
 
“I am very proud to say that all the businesses in Zillman Road are doing very well and am pleased to have such a good relationship with all my tenants.”
 
One of the two houses which he is currently building in Gordon Street Hendra is the old Station Masters House which he relocated from Zillman Road Hendra in order to maintain it’s historical value.
